Horizon Primary School

Horizon Primary School is a mixed primary school in Swanley, Kent, which recently converted to an academy.

The school wanted a clean, fun website reflecting the school’s love of the natural world combined with a horizon theme, hence the sunrise and nature themes on the homepage.  The homepage incorporates a fun and colourful vertical navigation on the left with large lettering.

The Headteacher emphasised the need for simplicity and so the main section of the page contains a small welcome message and a gallery showing recent pictures.

Navigation through the website was kept simple so that young users as well as parents and visitors could find their way round easily. The site contains a blog-style news section where teachers could publish their news.

The calendar is embedded from the school’s Google calendar and then styled individually to match the feel of the site.

The staff section was password protected so that non-staff visitors and children could not access this part of the site.
